Concordia Splits Over the Weekend

COSTA MESA, Calif. –  It was another close one for the Concordia Men's Tennis team, but they found a way to pull out the win against 5-4 BYU-Hawaii in its first match of the week.

The win marks the third time this season that the Eagles have won a match 5-4, including their exhibition match against Cypress College.

After the win, the Eagles find themselves with a record of 5-2 on the season.

The Concordia number one and two teams put two points on the board for the Eagles. \Till Guttenberger and Daniel Reddmann took the 8-5 win in the one slot, while the combination of Sten Boersma and Thijs Hagen came up with an 8-6 win in the second slot.

BYU-Hawaii rallied in singles, taking the first three matches against the Eagles top spots. The Eagles answered back by going on their own streak and taking the last three matches in singles. Reddmann started it off with his 2-6, 6-4, 6-2 win in the fourth spot, and Man Hon Ko followed by overpowering his opponent by a score of 6-2, 6-1. Hagen finished with the last win for the Eagles, taking his match 4-6, 6-4, 6-0.

In Concordia second match of the week, the Eagles went on the road and fell to Claremont-Mudd-Scripps College 2-7.

The Eagles dropped to 5-3 with the loss, and the Stags improved to 4-0.

It was a tough day for the CUI Men's Tennis team, but they saw some success in singles.

Reddmann and Man Hon Ko were the only Eagles to come away with victories on the day. Reddmann was in the four slot in this match and took his win 3-6, 6-2, 6-2. Man Hon Ko followed in the fifth spot with a 6-3, 2-6, 10-8 win of his own.

Next up for the CUI Men is a home match against Villanova University on Wednesday, Mar. 8th. The match is set to start at 10:00 AM.
