The bats were hot today as the Eagles outhit Hawai'i Pacific 11-5 in game three of the four game series with the Sharks. A strong outing from
Mike Killeen paired with a hungry Eagle offense propelled Concordia to an 8-3 victory.
The Eagles got to work early, bringing their first run across in the bottom of the first inning.
Ryan Land drew a leadoff walk and advanced to second on a failed pickoff attempt and error by the pitcher. A sacrifice bunt from
Haloa Dudoit moved him to third.
Bailey Collins then singled into right to bring in Land and put the Eagles up 1-0.
The scoring continued in the bottom of the second as
Dominic Castro led off with a double down the left field line. A ground ball from
Dillon Millar advanced Castro to third and an error would bring him in.
Killeen held the Sharks hitless through four innings before allowing just one hit in the fifth.
Chris Martin singled with one out in the Eagles' half of the fifth inning before a double from Land put two in scoring position. Dudoit followed with a single that knocked in both runners to give Concordia a 4-0 lead.
The only blemish on Killeen's day came in the top of the seventh inning as the Sharks struck for three. A leadoff homerun from Codi Sanchez put HPU on the board. Two more hard hit balls brought in two more runs as the Sharks chipped away at the Eagle lead.
Concordia answered back in the bottom of the eighth beginning with a big fly from Collins, his third of the year.
Hunter Holland came to the plate next and sent a double into left center. Castro was hit by a pitch and a sacrifice bunt from Millar moved the runners to second and third with just one out. Martin came up with a clutch single into center to bring in both runners. Land followed up with a RBI single to give Concordia an 8-3 lead.
Jason McLellan took over on the mound in the top of the ninth to close out the game for Concordia and set the Sharks down in order. A ground ball to Holland at third allowed the Eagles to turn a double play to end the game.
Killeen earned his fourth win of the season and now sits at a 4-2 record.
Collins' successful day at the plate added up to three hits including a double and homerun, and two RBIs. Land, Holland, and Martin each notched two hits each and Dudoit and Martin each knocked in two runs. Land, Dudoit and Donovan each stole a base.
