Men's Tennis Picks up Two Wins at PacWest Championships

The Concordia Men's Tennis Team closed out their 2017 season with two victories at the 2017 PacWest Championships in Surprise, Ariz. The Eagles finished in fifth-place after defeating Sonoma State and Holy Names,

The Eagles took on Sonoma State in the semifinals of the consolation bracket on Friday and came out with a 5-1 win. In doubles, the No. 1 team of
Till Guttenberger and
Daniel Reddmann grabbed an 8-4 win and the No. 2 team of
Sten Boersma and
Erik Witzlinger came away with an 8-6 win.
Reddmann outlasted his opponent as he took the first victory in singles for the Eagles out of the No. 4 spot. No. 6
Thijs Hagen and No. 2 Boersma both won in straight sets to secure the 5-1 victory for Concordia. Guttenberger was also leading in his No. 1 matchup as the match was completed.

In the fifth-place match against Holy Names, the Eagles swept the Hawks, 5-0. They swept in doubles as No. 1 Guttenberger and Reddmann won 806, No. 2 Boersma and Witzlinger won 8-2 and No 3
Man Hon Ko and
Otto Heinz won 8-4.
Ko finished his singles match first with two 6-0 set wins over his opponent out of the No. 5 spot. No. 1 Guttenberger sealed the deal as he won in straight sets (6-1, 6-3). Boersma, Witzlinger and Hagen were all leading by one set when the match wrapped up.
The Eagles finish the season with a nifty overall record of 11-9. Reddmann had one of the strongest singles seasons for the Eagles, going 13-5. The doubles team of Guttenberger and Reddmann finished with the most wins at eight.
