IRVINE, CALIF. — On a beautiful Saturday afternoon at Eagles field, the Concordia Women's Soccer team scored yet another header goal from a corner kick. This is the second finish from an Eagles head this week, notching their second conference win over the University of Hawai'i Hilo. The final score was 1-0 after Keely Abt got on the end of a corner kick late in the second half.

The match started with high energy offensive attacks by the Eagles, getting a corner kick at two minutes and a shot by Megan Hussey. The Vulcans took the ball back to the Eagles defense and put pressure with 3 shots in four minutes.

Both teams continued to switch off keeping possession all throughout the first period. Brianna Meyer had a shot from 25 yards that missed high in the last three seconds of the half. At halftime, both the Eagles and the Vulcans were tied at six shots.

As the second half begun, the back and forth of possession continued. Concordia began to pick up the pace and put excess pressure on the UHH backline with five shots by Cienah Reed, Marianna Maldonado, Reena Kang, and Carmany Jones (2).

In the 69th minute, McKenna Carrillo took a perfectly placed corner kick from the left side that landed straight on the head of Keely Abt. Abt redirected the ball past the keeper into the back of the net.

"Kryssa Johnson was right in front of me. She faked the header which confused the keeper," Abt said. "Then it came off my head and went into the back of the net."

The Eagles didn't let up for the rest of the second half, keeping the ball mostly in the Vulcans defensive half. Concordia executed strategic forward drives that created opportunities for an outside back run by Morgan Serres. She took a shot that missed just wide right followed by a shot on goal by Maldonado that was saved. A few fouls from both teams finished the match at 1-0.

Concordia returns to Eagles field on September 28th for a PacWest match-up against Azusa Pacific University. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30pm.
