IRVINE, CALIF. — Although Concordia women's soccer outshot Cal State San Bernardino 25-1, the double overtime battle resulted in a home field draw and brings Concordia's record to 0-1-1.

In the heat of the day, Concordia struck first with a shot by Carmany Jones that was just wide. A few moments later, Megan Hussey kept the pressure up with the Eagles first shot on goal. The attempt was saved by the CSUSB keeper.

After a second shot by Jones that sailed wide, the game slowed. Possession of the ball switched back and forth as each team battled to keep it long enough for a productive offensive attack. The Eagles worked their way to the flag for a corner kick taken by McKenna Carrillo. Kara Gilchrist got on the end of Carrillo's kick for the only header shot of the match. Her attempt landed wide left of the goal post.

Concordia continued to move the ball around and break through the back line for a six shot total in the first half. CSUSB could not avoid the strength of the Eagles defensive line, resulting in a first half shot shutout.

In the second half, Concordia started strong with three shots in the first seven minutes. Two shots came off the foot of Carrillo, one sailed wide and one was saved. The third shot was on frame and off the foot of Kryssa Johnson. Her attempt was saved.

Both teams picked up their speed of play as the clock counted down to the end of the match. The second half proved to be offensive for the Eagles, recording shots by Johnson (2), Carrillo (2), Megan Hussey, Grace Dalo, Brianna Meyer (2), Rachel Edelstein, and a goal post smasher by Reena Kang. Concordia could not find the back of the net to take the lead before the end of the second half.

Heading into overtime, an early shot by Hussey was saved and countered by the Coyotes. CSUSB's lone goal attempt sailed high over the net at 97:56. Two more Eagles shots were saved by the CSUSB keeper to end the first period of OT with a score of 0-0.

During the second overtime, both teams scrambled for a goal. Meyer hit the crossbar at 106:56 and the frustration from the team was audible. The match ended three minutes later with an Eagle shot count of seven from the second OT alone.

CSUSB recorded one shot through 110 minutes of play. "The defense did an amazing job at stopping any shots. We were able to stop plays as they were forming", senior goalkeeper Darby Clements said. "We worked hard on pressing and working the ball out from the back field which ultimately led us to control the majority of any offensive attacks."

The Eagles will be traveling to La Jolla, Calif. on September 5, to face University of California, San Diego at 7pm.
