After adding two more wins on day two of the 2017 Labor Day Invitational, the Concordia Women's Volleyball team is now 3-0 and has a victory over a ranked opponent under its wing.

The Eagles started Saturday with a four-set win over No. 5 Winona State and shut down the tournament by taking down McKendree University.

A key component in the success came from senior outside hitter Rachel Flynn's all-around play on the court. In just 11 sets, Flynn complied 35 kills, 25 digs and averaged 3.18 kills per set for a .326 hitting percentage. In addition to point-producing offense, Flynn anchored the serve receive throughout the weekend. Her efforts earned her Tournament MVP honors.

Along with Flynn, sophomore right side Cindy Tran was named to the All-Tournament Team. Tran put away 31 kills and averaged 3.32 points per set. Her contributions at the net were undeniable - with 11 total blocks on the weekend.

Match up one of Saturday set the Eagles against a physical Winona State team.

During the first, the Eagles utilized a five point service run from Riley Gill to take the 12-6 advantage. While Winona worked its way back to tie the game at 21, middle blocker Amber Rose killed a set from Erica Anthony to regain the lead. One error and a Gill kill secured the Eagles the game.

In set two, the Eagles battled the Warriors to an intense 32-30 win. During the third, the Eagles exemplified their resiliance with a close comeback. Despite being down most of the game, the Eagles inched their way back but the Warriors pulled out the 26-24 set.

The final game saw the Eagles jump to a quick lead on two kills from Jaclyn Brown and a few Warrior mistakes. As the Eagles' offensive engine continued to run, the Warriors' unforced errors worked to Concordia's favor. They snagged the match with the 25-17 win.

Rose led the match with 11 blocks, Jessica Diederich had 22 assists and Madeline Deters posted 25 digs.

The challenge early in the season is something Head Coach Paula Weishoff welcomed for her team.

"Its always good to get tested early," Weishoff said. "We came out and we just went point for point and stayed calm and patient. It was nice to see us be comfortable being uncomfortable against a very good team."

Match two was a different story for the Eagles. In their four set success, they dominated two games and fought closely with McKendree the other pair.

In the end, Concordia claimed the win 25-11, 23-25, 26-24, 25-14.

Weishoff was impressed with the competition from the Bearcats.

"They just kept getting better and better and better," she said. "It was good for us because they kept the ball in and we had to play defense and transition. They made us work for it."

The Eagles will now venture north for the West Region Crossover Tournament in Anchorage, Alaska. Play begins on September 7th at 6 p.m. against the Coyotes of Cal State San Bernardino from the CCAA.
