Men’s Soccer Drops Close Fought Battle in OT

The Eagles traveled to Cal State L.A. to take on the Golden Eagles in a midweek regional matchup.  Concordia controlled the first half, but Cal State L.A. fought back to tie in the second to force overtime where the Golden Eagles scored a golden goal to take a 2-1 win.
 
Connor Gordon put Concordia on the board first with a goal in the 22nd minute.  He received a pass from Jose Garfias and shot from outside the box, netting it right inside the front post for his fourth goal of the season.
 
The Ealges continued their offensive charge in the half, outshooting CSULA 7-4 with shots from Julian Font, Gordon, Ether Bustos, Ari Claro and Michael Oakson.
 
Cal State L.A. took control in the second half, tying the game at one as Tim Klefisch shot to the far post for his first goal of the season.  They turned the tables on Concordia, outshooting them 7-2.  William Whiddon made three saves in the second half for CUI.
 
Whiddon came up with a big save in the goal in the 88th minute to keep the score tied at one, sending the game into overtime.
 
Eric Torres took the firs shot of the overtime period, but CSULA goalie Steven Barrera was there to make the save.
 
Whiddon made another impressive save just four minutes into the period, this time on a header from L.A.'s Morton Bjoershol.
 
The Golden Eagle offense prevailed, scoring in the 97th minute with a goal from Julian Zamora to give Cal State L.A. the 2-1 victory.
 
The Eagles sit at a record of 1-2 as CSULA improves to 3-0 on the season. 
 
On Saturday Concordia heads to La Jolla to take on the Tritons of UCSD at 7 p.m.
