Eagles fall in battle against Point Loma

IRVINE, Calif. — The Concordia Men's Basketball team (11-7, 5-5 PWC) fell to the Point Loma Sea Lions (14-6, 8-3 PWC) on Thursday night after an intense battle to the final buzzer. Point Loma was picked third in the preseason poll right in front of Concordia.

On an off night for the Eagles, Geoff Gerlach and JT Roach led the scoring with 10 points each. Tad Dufelmeier grabbed four steals on the night.

The Eagles set the offensive energy in motion with a layup by Roach and a tip-in from Brian Chambers. Fighting for the lead, Point Loma added layups and a three pointer by Tanner Nelson.

After a Concordia timeout, layups by Tad Dufelmeier and Tyler Lacour brought the score to 17-11, Eagles trailed. Almost two minutes passed without a field goal from either team, both playing strong defense.

Back to back jumpers by Roach brought the Eagles within ten points of Point Loma. Geoff Gerlach followed with a jumper of his own and the Sea Lions led by eight points with less than two minutes remaining in the half.

A steal by Dufelmeier led to a Gerlach layup to round out the scoring for the Eagles. The teams headed to halftime with a 34-26 Point Loma lead.

Gerlach got the Eagles on the board in the second half with a layup. Later in the half, Denzel Holt hit a three pointer assisted by Michael Vos-Otin that brought the Point Loma lead to 43-31.

With 10:20 remaining in the contest, Dufelmeier had another steal and tossed a pass to Vos-Otin for a layup.

Roach drained his first three pointer of the game assisted by Gerlach with eight minutes remaining. Anderson Clarke made his presence known on the court with a layup just a minute after entering the game in the second half.

Roach, utilizing his teammates, passed to Vos-Otin who tossed it to Gerlach for a layup.

A layup by Adam Turner and a few free throws end the game for the Eagles. The Sea Lions defeat the Eagles 67-50.
