Murphy and Oakson Get Eagles Back on Track

Connor Murphy and Michael Oakson helped Concordia get back in the win column Tuesday as the Eagles closed out their six-game road trip with a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Chaminade.

Oakson tallied his first goal of the season early in the second half on a header as the 6'6" sophomore from Mission Viejo was able to use his tall frame to push the ball past the Chaminade keeper.  The score came off a throw-in by Murphy in the 50th minute and wound up standing as the only goal of the entire match.

The two teams combined for 35 fouls and seven yellow cards but the Concordia defense stood tall under pressure.

Concordia was fortunate to keep Chaminade off the scoreboard and limited the Silverswords to only two shots on goal.  The Eagles outshot Chaminade 17-6 and were able to put eight shots on target.

After losing the first two legs of their Hawai'i swing, the Eagles finished up 1-2 on the Islands and 2-4 on their season-long six-game road trip.

"It was important for the men to find a way to win," said head coach Chris Gould. "It wasn't pretty but we stuck to the game plan and we were able to grind a result out. Good to see the guys respond."

The Green and Gold improve to 3-3 in the PacWest Conference and head home to prepare for matches early next week against Academy of Art and Azusa Pacific.

Concordia soccer will host doubleheaders on Monday, Oct. 22 against the Urban Knights and on Wednesday, Oct. 24 against the Cougars.  The men's games start at 1 p.m. and the women's matches will follow at approximately 3:30 p.m. on both days.
