HONOLULU, Hawaii — Eagles women's soccer (5-6-1, 3-3 PWC) worked to make their conference record even against the Chaminade Silverswords on Tuesday. Earning the 2-0 win, Concordia came through with a goal per half.
Cienah Reed led her team with both an assist and a goal. Marianna Maldonado found the netting just six seconds before the end of the first half, while Reed struck the ball for a goal 50 seconds into the second period.
Chaminade was picked to finish 11th in the PacWest Preseason poll just ahead of Notre Dame de Namur. The Eagles outshot the Silverswords 17 to seven and earned eight corner kicks to Chaminade's two.
The teams battled through the first half with nothing to show for it until the final minute. Maldonado received a cross at her feet from Reed and tapped it into the net to send her team to halftime with a 1-0 lead.
Not even a minute after taking the field for the second half, Concordia struck again. Reed fired a shot to the top corner for the second goal of the game, assisted by Carmany Jones.
Concordia showed extreme discipline in defense while holding the most dangerous lead in the game of soccer for the final 44 minutes of the match and securing the 2-0 conference win.
"The women played well but could not finish all our opportunities," said head coach Chris Gould. "We keep doing the right things, I am sure the goals will come. We look forward to playing at home for the remainder of the conference season."
On Monday Oct. 22, Eagles women's soccer returns from their six-game road trip for a home PacWest match against Academy of Art. Kickoff is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
