Concordia University Irvine played against Point Loma Friday night, another game going to a five set match, but ultimately losing to the Sea Lions.
Patience O'Neal led the team with 17 kills on the night, while
Jaclyn Brown had 13 kills and led the team with 25 digs.
Jordan Mineer was right behind with 12 kills. Both
Hannah Tostado and
Emily LaCroix-Dalluhn were solid out of the middle for the Eagles, hitting above .300.
Brianna Latigue had 22 assists, while
Ailsa Watson had 21 assists.
Clarice Buchanan had another solid night with 19 digs and 9 assists.
In the first set, the Eagles would go on a few runs to push the lead in favor for them.
Hannah Tostado would go on the first service run to take the first lead 12-9. A few kills from the Sea Lions would cause them to come right back in the game.
Clarice Buchanan would go on a service run for the Eagles push them with a lead. Another service run from
Jaclyn Brown would give them just enough to only need one sideout from winning the first match. An attack error from Point Loma would give Concordia the first set win, 25-21.
In the second set, the Eagles would get ahead right out of the start with
Riley Gill in the back serving and
Jaclyn Brown getting a few kills. The Sea Lions were able to keep a strong steady pace with the Eagles and continue to go back and forth, ultimately taking the second set with a score 20-25.
The Eagles came out strong in the third set taking a quick lead from the Sea Lions.
Jaclyn Brown and
Hannah Tostado would go on service runs to take the lead even stronger, 12-6. The Eagles never let off the gas, as
Brianna Latigue would go back to the service line and get them into an even more comfortable cushion with a 21-12 lead. A few service errors and setting error from the Point Loma would give Concordia the win 25-20.
The fourth set was a different story for the Eagles as they would start off the set with a 2-6 deficit. The Eagles would not be able to hang on and fight back with the Sea Lions. Point Loma would continue to go on rows throughout this set, winning 14-25.
The Eagles would start the fifth set with
Jaclyn Brown going to the back line to serve as the Sea Lions would earn the first point. Both teams would battle as the score continued to go back and forth and a kill from Point Loma would make them switch sides with a score 7-8. The Eagles were able to keep the score within one point until the Sea Lions were able to get an ace on them before finishing the game with a Sea Lion kill. The Eagles fought hard and left it all the court, falling 12-15 in the final set of the match.
The next match will be on October 6 at 5:00 PM in the CU Arena against Dominican as it will be Dig Pink Night for the Eagles.
