Riverside, Calif.- The Concordia Eagles water polo team finished off their regular season on Thursday against the red hot Cal Baptist Lancers. Winners of nine of their last 10 games, CBU has proven to be a tough opponent for the Eagles before. In the two previous meetings, the Lancers topped the Eagles in each.
Three minutes into the game, CBU struck first, but on the ensuing possession, Patrick Zsiros found the back of the net for the Eagles, tying the game at one. Less than a minute later, Zsiros scored again, this time on a power play. The game went back and forth for the rest of the first quarter.
Marius Jakimcikas scored later in the period, with the assist by Zsiros, and
Messan Moore added the fourth CUI goal of the first period. At the end of one, the score was tied 4-4.
The Eagles picked up right where they left off in the second period. Christiano Tomassetti scored a goal off of a pass from
Nick Walker.
Dan Maleski scored a goal to put the Eagles up 6-5, but CBU countered with two later goals to take a one goal lead into the halftime break.
The second half was all Lancers.
Nick Walker scored his second goal of the day in the third period, but CBU stretched their lead to 11-7 at the end of three. In the fourth, CUI was outscored 3-1.
Messan Moore scored the final CUI goal on a pass from
Jeff Wheeler. Final score- CBU 14, CUI 8.
Eagle Eye: Zsiros scored two goals and collected an assist. Walker had a goal and an assist. Moore scored twice.
What's Next: The Eagles will compete in the WWPA Conference Tournament from November 16-18 in Fresno, California.
