Junior
Messan Moore scored twice and senior goalie
Alfredo De La Mora made eight saves against UC Davis in Concordia's opening match at the Western Water Polo Association Championships.
Unfortunately for the Eagles, UC Davis built a 10-6 advantage by halftime and then proceeded to hold the Concordia offense in check to preserve a 19-6 win.
Concordia entered the tourney as the seven seed after the Aggies claimed the two seed at the end of the regular season.
After falling behind the Aggies 2-0 out the chute, the Green and Gold immediately rallied to tie the game when
Nick Walker and
Mitchell Iunker scored in a span of 33 seconds.
But the Aggies collected three more goals before the end of the first period and the Eagles were stuck playing catch up the rest of the afternoon.
Walker and
Dan Maleski each contributed a goal and an assist and
Austin Barton also scored. However, UC Davis stepped up on defense and held the Eagles scoreless in the second half.
Concordia will face Fresno Pacific on Saturday at 8:30 a.m. in the seventh place match.
The Eagles defeated the Sunbirds 12-10 in their home opener back in September.
