The PacWest Conference named guard Brian Chambers as its new Defender of the Week after the senior helped Concordia University Irvine collect its third straight win on Saturday. 

Chambers scored 24 points, handed out nine assists and pocketed four steals in a well-rounded effort that helped the Eagles defeat Antelope Valley, 74-65.  The Eagles defense forced 24 turnovers which led to 26 points.

"I feel like we do a lot of different things defensively compared to other teams," said Chambers, who also had two defensive rebounds. "We trap, we pressure more aggressively, and we hang our hats on being that team that no one wants to play against."

He and fellow senior Tyler Lacour personally oversaw an 11-0 run in the second half to help the Eagles pull away from the visiting Pioneers.

Chambers leads the entire PacWest Conference with 18 steals and has recorded at least one swipe in each of his last five outings.  The Long Beach, Calif. native led the league in steals last season and the Green and Gold were also first in the entire PacWest Conference in steals and turnover margin.

"At the start of the season, our coaches always said defense will be our identity and I think we struggled with that a little bit at the beginning but we have definitely improved in that area."

Concordia travels north for its PacWest Conference opener this week and will face the Dominican Penguins on Thursday, Nov. 29 at 7:30 p.m.

"I love playing in the gym at Dominican," added Chambers. "It's always a close game and they're a tough team and their student section is also very competitive which ultimately gets me going."

The Eagles will visit Academy of Art on Saturday, Dec. 1. at 3:30 p.m. before returning home to face Azusa Pacific on Wednesday, Dec. 5 at 7:30 p.m.
