Irvine, Calif. -
Connor Gordon tied the Concordia University Irvine record for most career goals and the entire 2018 senior class celebrated in style as the Eagles closed out their season with a 4-2 win over Holy Names University.
Classmate
Julian Font fed Gordon in the 21st minute off a pass from
Michael Oakson to help the Green and Gold take an early 1-0 lead.  The Hawks responded quickly however as Josiah Romero tallied two quick goals to give the visitors a 2-1 advantage.
The Eagles regrouped and found the equalizer in the 41st minute when a rebound bounced to
Austin Nazer and he passed to
Jose Huerta for a clutch score.
The match was tied 2-2 at intermission but after that it was all Eagles.
In the 54th minute,
Willy Ospina lifted a great ball to
Jafet Sanchez who tucked one past the keeper for the go-ahead goal.
Then in the 69th minute, Gordon dribbled down the right flank past two defenders and beat the goalie to make it 4-2 and claim his spot in Concordia history.
By scoring twice on Saturday, Gordon tied Jeff Clark for the school record with 50 career goals.  Gordon also capped off his amazing career by moving into fourth place in all-time assists this week as he finished with 21 helpers as a Concordia Eagle.  That ranks only behind Michael Prado (30 assists), Clark (26) and Ryan Ninke (26) in program history.
When the final seconds ticked off and the match went final, Gordon had also moved into the league lead with 18 goals this season. He also ended the year with 42 total points which put him in second place in the entire PacWest Conference.
The victory marked the final match for seniors
Ari Claro,
Jose Garfias,
Eric Torres,
Ty O'Connor,
Alex Zawitkowski, and
John Letona, as well as Gordon and Font.
The Concordia men's team closed out the season with three straight victories and five wins in its last six games.  The Green and Gold also protected home field extremely well this year with an impressive 7-3 mark at Eagles Field.  Overall, the Eagles finished 9-9 with a 7-3 PacWest record which was good for a third place finish in the league.
