IRVINE, Calif. — Eagles women's soccer honored its five seniors with an eight-goal shut out on senior day against the Holy Names Hawks in PacWest conference play. Before kickoff, the team and coaches thanked seniors Keely Abt, McKenna Carrillo, Morgan Serres, Kryssa Johnson, and Katie Gast for their contributions to the soccer program and to the university. Four of the Eagles five seniors scored goals during the senior day conference match.
With the energy surrounding their senior day, Concordia flew off the half-line with intensity. Three minutes into regulation time, the Eagles earned a corner kick. Megan Hussey took the corner, booted a lofted ball to the back post and found the head of Molly Melanson for the first goal of the half.
Keeping their foot on the gas, Concordia struck again in the seventh minute. Carrillo received the ball in the attacking third and played it to the right side of the box for Carmany Jones. Jones faked the defender and ripped a shot that deflected off an HNU defender and into the net. Eagles led 2-0 after seven minutes.
Throughout the season, CUI continued to capitalize on set pieces and this game was no different. Earning another corner kick, Hussey placed the ball in the arch and hit a cross into the six-yard box where Johnson was positioned to redirect it past the keeper with her head.
Not five minutes later, it was Abt's turn. The senior forward charged down the center of the field, got the ball at her feet outside the 18-yard box from a left flank pass by Jones, and sent a rocket shot into the upper corner. Concordia led Holy Names 4-0 at halftime.
Jones scored her second goal of the game about 15 minutes into the second half. Mariana Maldonado took her defender 1v1 and played a diagonal pass to Jones. The forward took a high shot from the top of the 18-yard box that hit the crossbar and bounced down past the goal line.

Earning her second assist of the game, Maldonado drove down the left flank once again. Her teammates crashed the box and Carrillo got a head on well placed cross near the back post to earn her a senior day goal.
Less than two minutes remained and Concordia had a safe 6-0 lead, but did not let up. Morgan Serres took the ball up her right-side flank to play a diagonal ball to Megan Hussey. Hussey took a touch and passed the ball by the keeper for the Eagles seventh of the game.
In the last 40 seconds, Carrillo took a throw-in from the right side of the field. Abt flicked the ball into the six-yard box to find the head of Katie Gast. Gast scored the Eagles final goal, her first of the season.
The final game of the season proved memorable in many ways, including the school records set in assists in a single game with nine and shots in a single game with 35. This was the fourth shutout in a row for Eagles defense. Concordia women's soccer finished its season with a record of 9-6-2 overall, 7-3-1 in the PacWest conference.
