Rachal Stars in Concordia Debut

Carson, Calif. - The Eagles women's basketball team began its season on Friday night, competing in the CCAA/PacWest Challenge.  In the opening game, CUI took on the Cal State Dominguez Hills Toros on their home floor in Carson.

The Eagles started slow, missing their first five shots.  But led by Jasmine Rachal, the Eagles got it going midway through the first quarter.  After taking a 10-8 lead, the offense suddenly went cold again.  CSUDH then went on a 9-2 run to close the first quarter and take a 17-12 lead into the second.

In the next 10 minutes, nothing went right for the Eagles.  CUI was outscored in the second quarter 22-10.  At halftime, Rachal led the Eagles with 11 points, but the Eagles trailed 39-22.

The third quarter was much of the same.  The Toros continued their hot shooting and extended the lead.  The Eagles scored just three points in the first six minutes of the half, and by the end of the quarter, the Toros stretched their lead to 27 points.

In the fourth quarter, many of the younger players for each team gained valuable experience.  The Eagles played better in the final quarter, outscoring CSUDH by a count of 20-7.

Eagle Eye: Rachal led the Eagles with 18 points and four assists.  Riley Friauf added 11 points and Kennedy Fulcher grabbed a team-high nine rebounds.

What's Next: The Eagles take on Cal State Los Angeles Saturday at 4 p.m. in Carson, California.
