Eagles split pair of games in St. George

Saturday, the Eagles split their games to conclude the Dixie State Tournament with a 3-1 record. After falling to Colorado Mesa in the first game of the day, Concordia bounced back against Colorado School of Mines. CUI is now 7-2 on the 2018 season.

Game 1: CUI 2, CM 3: Both teams went scoreless through the first inning, with Grayson Harvey recording her first strikeout of the day. In the top of the second, Amy Eilefson shot a solo homerun over the fence for the 1-0 lead. In the bottom of two, Colorado Mesa hit a duo of solo homers to jump ahead 2-1. Concordia threatened to score in the fifth on the singles from  Mackenzie Graham and Sarah Kretschmar, but the Eagles couldn't convert. The Mavericks added their final run in the fifth on a RBI double. In the top of the sixth, Concordia cut the difference to one. Ryann Ferguson led off with a single and Kailey Palazzolo doubled to move Ferguson to third. Eilefson hit a sacrifice fly to bring Ferguson home and cut the lead to one, but Concordia was unable to overcome the Mavericks. Eilefson and Ferguson each had one run and one hit.

Game 2: CUI 3, CSM 1: Ferguson fired up the Eagles in the first inning of their second game of the day with a lead-off homer. Sydni Dix delivered a base hit and Eilefson moved her around with a single. Dix stole third and McKinsey Thorpe brought her in with a grounder. In the second, Kaylee Dalgarn and Lauren Lopez posted base hits. Dalgarn was thrown out in attempt for extra bases on Lopez's hit, but Ferguson came up next and brought Lopez around. The Orediggers' rallied for one run in the fifth, but the Eagle defense fought them off to secure the 3-1 win. Harvery collected her third win on five innings with five strikeouts. Jordan Quinn earned the save, throwing two innings with one strikeout.
