Concordia punishes Hilo in PacWest win

IRVINE, Calif. —  On Monday night, Eagles Men's Basketball (16-9, 10-7 PWC) avenged their previous loss to the University of Hawaii at Hilo Vulcans (6-16, 5-10 PWC) with a powerhouse win at CU Arena. This time around, Concordia had home court advantage and took the contest 94-58. With points scattered across each Eagles stat lines, Brian Chambers led with 27 points on the night and four steals on defense. Tad Dufelmeier had five assists and 15 total points while  his 6'3 teammate Tyler Lacour totaled nine points.

CUI played tough defense working their offense up to be explosive in the second half. The team forced the Vulcans to give up 19 total turnovers and took advantage of the errors. Concordia scored 27 points off of Vulcan turnovers. Passing around the arch and strategically striking, Eagles offense managed 60 points in the paint.

How It Happened

Chambers hit a three pointer right out of the gate and the Eagles held the lead throughout the first half. Chambers was assisted by JT Roach. Almost halfway through the first half, Dufelmeier took a pass from Mike Mellinger and drained a three from the right side of the arch. The Eagles ended the first half with a 12 point lead, 39-27. Of those points, 24 were in the paint.

Dufelmeier started the second half with a layup in the paint followed by a Chambers layup. Both were assisted by Michael Vos-Otin who totaled four assists on the night. With eight minutes remaining, Roach tossed a cross court pass to Chambers who dunked it to extend the Eagles lead to 27 points. Adam Turner slammed a dunk of his own in the final minute of the contest. Concordia punished Hilo winning by 36 points, 94-58.
