Eagles drop conference opener to T-No. 14 SDSU

IRVINE, Calif. – The Concordia Women's Water Polo Team fell today in their conference opener against T-No. 14 San Diego State by a final of 12-5.
SDSU controlled most of the first quarter, scoring goals at 6:07 and 3:40. The Eagles found the back of the net with three minutes to go in the first when
Shannon Graham cut the deficit in half. The Eagles struck again, evening the game 2-2, with a goal from
Jastine Vazquez. In the last minute of the quarter, SDSU struck for two quick goals to end the quarter with a 4-2 lead.
Corbin Bricks brought the Eagles back within one with a goal with a goal at 6:51in the second quarter, but the Aztecs answered back with a goal of their own two minutes later. They added to their lead with 1:16 left in the first half to hold a 6-3 advantage at half time.
The Eagles continued to try to chip away at the Aztec lead with a goal from
Elena Isogawa to kick off the third quarter. After another SDSU goal,
Kelley Geurts assisted on a goal by
Hanna Jordan to bring the score to 7-5 in favor of San Diego State.
The Aztecs controlled the entire fourth quarter, outscoring the Eagles 5-0 to end the game 12-5.
The Eagles fall to 3-2 on the season and 0-1 in GCC play. They jump back into the pool on Mar. 2 when they play Chapman and CSU Monterey Bay to kick off the Convergence Tournament hosted by Claremont-Mudd-Scripps.
