Eagles fall to ArtU in regular season finale

BELMONT, Calif. — With the Academy of Art Men's Basketball team (11-15, 10-10 PWC) pressing to make the PacWest tournament, Concordia had a battle on their hands come Saturday afternoon. The teams fought through regulation and two overtimes in their first 2017-18 season meeting. Rounding out the regular season and northern California road trip, The Eagles fell to ArtU 81-79.

Eagles first half domination: The game began with the lead switching hands until a three pointer by Tyler Lacour pushed the Eagles in the lead. A block by Adam Turner with two minutes remaining made a rebound grab by Roach turned layup by Lacour. Concordia headed to halftime with a ten point lead, 33-23.

Urban Knights fight back: Roach started the second half with jumper assisted by Dufelmeier, but ArtU began to close the gap after 10 minutes. With back to back layups and a jumper, the Urban Knights tied the game at 63-63 with 30 seconds. After regulation, the Eagles shot 50 percent from the field and forced 12 turnovers.

Double Overtime: ArtU took a two point lead with one minute remaining in the first overtime and added another point from a free throw. With two seconds remaining, Roach drained a three pointer from outside the arch to push the teams into a second overtime tied at 70-70. In the second overtime, the Urban Knights took an early lead but were later caught by the Eagles 79-79 with 20 seconds left in the game. A final jumper by ArtU's Kendall Brown sent the Urban Knights home with the win, 81-79.

Eagle Eye: JT Roach found his way into the spotlight once again posting 29 points. Tad Dufelmeier led the Eagles in assists with six and scored 14 points of his own. Grabbing 10 rebounds on the night, Geoff Gerlach went 4-4 in field goals and added two free throw points for a total of 10 points.
