Eagles downed by Cougars in three game series

IRVINE, Calif. — After a comeback win on Friday, Eagles Baseball (1-2, 0-0 PWC) continued the three game series on Saturday with a double-header against Cal State San Marcos (2-1, 0-0 CCAA). Concordia fell to San Marcos 2-1 and 9-5.

Game 1

Strong pitching and defense by both teams made for a quick and scoreless seven innings. Starting pitching from Freshman Joshua Ibarra shut down the San Marcos offense through six innings. The Cougars took a one run lead in the eighth with a homer over the right field fence and added a second run in the ninth after a sacrifice fly out.

In the last half inning the game, Haloa Dudoit started the Eagles off with a base hit to left field. The tying run was then moved to second base after Hunter Holland drew a walk. Bailey Collins singled to center field to bring in Dudoit and put the Eagles one run behind San Marcos. Tony Garcia III singled to shortstop and in a final play at the plate, Holland was thrown out. Concordia was defeated 2-1 in the second game of the three game series.

Game 2

The Cougars got on the board early with an RBI single to center field. In the bottom of the first, Dillon Millar lead the offensive attack for the Eagles. Davis Tominaga ripped a double to center field to bring in Millar.

In the bottom of the third inning, Dudoit singled up the middle and Tominaga knocked him in with RBI single to right field, San Marcos led 6-2.

The bottom of the fifth brought two doubles from Dudoit and Grimes. Nava and Barry scored. Tominaga singled and then scored on a sac fly by Collins. The Eagles trailed 7-5 after five and ended after seven innings with a Cougars win, 9-5.

Davis Tominaga went 3-for-4 with a double and three RBI's. Dudoit went 2-for-2 with a double and a base hit.
