Holland’s grand slam propels Eagles to victory over ArtU

IRVINE, Calif. — In the second of a four game series at Eagles Field, Concordia Baseball took down the Academy of Art Urban Knights, 6-4. Hunter Holland smashed a grand slam and a double to knock in all six Eagle runs on the day.

RHP Joshua Ibarra (1-2) took the ball in the first for Concordia. The freshman pitched six innings, struck out four Urban Knights and received the win. LHP Sam Reed entered the game in the seventh to relieve Ibarra. Reed pitched two innings, gave up two hits and struck out two batters.

Urban Knights bounce back:  After dropping the first game of the four game series, Academy of Art put up a fight right out of the gate scoring two runs in the second inning off of four hits and two left on base. The Eagles offense was held off by junior RHP Ben Kaser, not putting a run on the board until the sixth inning.

Holland catches fire: In the bottom of the sixth inning, Concordia let loose. Chris Martin started the rally with a single to center field, and was followed by the same from Haloa Dudoit. The third single of the inning by Nick Grimes loaded the bases for Holland to hit a grand slam over the left field fence. The Eagles led 4-2 after six.

After an Academy of Art pitching change in the bottom of the eighth, Holland came through once again. The junior doubled to right field, scoring both Collins and Dimascio. Dimascio entered the game as a pinch runner for Davis Tominaga, who became a baserunner after being hit by the pitch. Concordia shutout ArtU in the top of the ninth and brought home a 6-2 win.

Up Next: Eagles Baseball (5-11, 2-4 PWC) looks to close out the series with a double header against Academy of Art on Saturday March 3. Game times are scheduled for 11 a.m. and 2 p.m.
