IRVINE, CA – The Eagles head down the street to play three matches against Nebraska, Irvine Valley College, and #5 Long Beach State.
The first match was against Nebraska as the Eagles went 0-5.
Tristan Self and
Vanessa Bernzen played the No. 1 slot where they lost in two sets with scores 12-21 and 17-21.
Avery Keathley and
Riley Gill competed in the second slot with scores 14-21 and coming close in the second set with a score of 18-21.
Marcela Frazzoni and
Kyra Auten battled out in both sets but ultimately losing in two sets, 18-21 and 16-21. In the fourth slot,
Jessica Diederich and
Asia O'Neil put up a tough fight against the Huskers as they took them to three sets. Diederich and O'Neil dominated in the first set winning 21-12, but losing the next two sets with scores 18-21 and 11-15.
Julia Denboer and
Kekela Hendrickson played the last slot where they fell short in two sets 16-21 and 10-21.
The next match up was against Irvine Valley College where the Eagles were able to take one match from them with a score 1-4. In the first slot,
Tristan Self and
Vanessa Bernzen were able to take Lasers to three sets winning the first set 21-17. The Eagles fell short in the second set losing 18-21, while the third set was battled back and forth between each team; losing with a final score 16-18.
Avery Keathley and
Riley Gill were in the second slot with scores 14-21 and 18-21. In the third slot,
Marcela Frazzoni and
Kyra Auten lost in two close scoring sets, 19-21 and 17-21. The No. 4 slot, was the one win for the Eagles from
Jessica Diederich and
Asia O'Neil. Diederich and O'Neil put up two strong sets winning with scores of 22-20 and 21-18. In the last slot,
Julia Denboer and
Kekela Hendrickson won the first set against the Lasers 18-21, but were not able to rally in the last two sets with scores 15-21 and 9-15.
The last match of the day was against #5 Long Beach State where the Eagles had a tough match up going 0-5. The No.1 slot went to two sets with scores 9-21 and 11-21. In the second slot,
Avery Keathley and
Riley Gill lost the first set 11-21, but were able to come back for the second set with a hard battle with a score 22-20. Keathley and Gill were not able to hang on to Long Beach State in the third set with a score 7-15. The third slot
Marcela Frazzoni and
Kyra Auten fell short with scores 9-21 and 17-21. In the last slots, the Eagles fell short in two sets each, 12-21, 11-21, and 9-21, 5-21.
