WAIPAHU, Hawai'i — After a day off between doubleheaders, Concordia Baseball looked for redemption against the Hawai'i Pacific Sharks on Monday. The Eagles dropped the first two games of the series on Saturday and hoped to bounce back. Starting slow, Concordia fell 14-2 in game one of the double header but fought to claim the 6-2 win in the nightcap.
Freshman Joshua Ibarra was sent to the mound in game one and pitched three innings, allowed 10 hits, six earned runs, and struck out three. Jack Ruegge entered the game in relief to pitch four innings, allow seven hits, and strike out three.
Offensively, the Eagles started game one with energy and put two runs on the board in the first inning. Haloa Dudoit and Bailey Collins both singled and rounded the bases. Hunter Holland hit Dudoit in and Collins stole home for the Eagles second run. Hawai'i Pacific responded in the bottom of the first adding four runs to its side of the board and continuing to pressure Concordia's defense through eight and a half innings. The Sharks downed the Eagles 14-2 in game one.
Game two brought a new mentality to the Eagles dugout and bullpen as Will Cohen got the start on the hill. The freshman received the win after throwing six innings and allowing just eight hits and two runs. Sam Reed closed the Eagles out with a seventh inning save, his first as an Eagle.
Davis Tominaga, Collins, and Dudoit led the charge going 2-for-4 in game two. The Eagles got early runs and held on, adding another in the sixth inning for good measure. In the first inning, the top of the order knocked five hits in a row including a single by Alex DiMascio to score Dudoit and a double by Holland to bring Collins and Tominaga home. Dominic Castro continued the momentum through the top of the second with a double of his own to left field. Dillon Millar followed with a single through the right side. Tominaga put the ball in play for an RBI groundout to the second baseman to score Castro and move Millar to third. Millar scored on a wild pitch to bring the Eagles lead to 5-0 at the middle of the second inning.
Michael Nava singled in the sixth inning and crossed home when Dudoit smacked a double down the left field line. The Sharks fought back in the seventh inning with two runs but Concordia held on to take game two 6-2.
