GLENDORA, Calif. – The Concordia Women's Water Polo Team dropped their final game of the regular season on Saturday, falling to Azusa Pacific 12-4.
The Eagles were held off the board in the opening period, allowing APU to jump out to a 3-0 lead. The Cougars opened up the second quarter with their fourth goal of the contest to further their lead over CUI.
Concordia was able to break through the APU defense halfway through the second period when senior
Kelley Geurts found the back of the net at the 4:22 mark, cutting the deficit to three. APU responded with one more goal to take a 5-1 lead into halftime.
Trailing 6-1 late in the third frame,
Lindsey Heaney found
Ramsie Haskell for CUI's second goal. With 1:34 remaining in the quarter,
Dailynn Santoro scored to bring the score to 6-3 in favor of the Cougars. APU scored twice more before the close of the quarter and they carried an 8-3 lead into the final period.
Santoro opened the final frame with a goal early in the period, but the Eagles were unable to stop the potent APU offense from scoring four more to come away with a 12-4 win.
With the loss, Concordia falls to 5-16 overall and 0-7 in conference play. They set their sights on the GCC Tournament this weekend in Los Angeles. More information will be provided later this week on cuieagles.com.
