Women's Water Polo Upended by Pacific in Opening Game of GCC Tournament

LOS ANGELES – The No. 8 seeded Concordia Women's Water Polo Team faced off against the No. 1 seed in the University of Pacific on Friday in the opening game of the GCC Tournament, falling 19-9. The Eagles were led by strong performances from
Shannon Graham and
Lindsey Heaney, with each scoring three goals.
The Eagles were outscored 6-2 in the opening period. The Tigers began the contest with the first four goals of the quarter, before
Elena Isogawa found the net for CUI with 3:30 remaining in the period. The Tigers scored again before Heaney chipped one in for her first of the game of the quarter came to a close.
The Tigers scored to open the second period and 20 seconds later Graham responded with her first tally of the game. She followed up with another goal just over a minute later, but the Eagles trailed 9-4 heading into halftime.
CUI was held off the board in the third, but came back to score five in the final frame. Trailing 15-4,
Corbin Bricks assisted Graham on a goal one minute into the fourth quarter.
Hanna Jordan, Heaney, and
Jastine Vazquez all scored for CUI in the period, but they were unable to overcome the offensive power of Pacific.
The Eagles continue on in the tournament on Saturday when they take on the No. 5 seeded Fresno State. The game is slated for 11 a.m. in Los Angeles.
