LOS ANGELES – The Concordia Women's Water Polo Team concluded their 2018 campaign on a high note, defeating the Santa Clara Broncos 8-5 in the GCC seventh-place game. Dailynn Santoro led CUI with two goals scored. Ariana Olmos had a big game in goal for the Eagles, making 17 stops while allowing just five goals.

CUI wasted no time getting on the board, scoring the game's first goal less than two minutes in. Kelley Geurts did the damage at the 6:39 mark in the opening period. Santa Clara quickly evened the score before Santoro went back-to-back with assists from Corbin Bricks and Ramsie Haskell to give the Eagles a 3-1 advantage with 2:26 to play in the period. The Broncos squeaked in a goal to end the first period and CUI carried a one-goal advantage into the second quarter.

Shannon Graham doubled the Eagle lead three minutes into the second using an assist from Jade Jette. Santa Clara managed a goal with 1:20 to play in the half and CUI headed into halftime leading 4-3.

The Eagles used a big three-goal third period to give themselves some insurance over the Broncos, outscoring them 3-1 in the quarter. Elena Isogawa gave the Eagles their first tally of the second half, assisted by Graham, at the 5:13 mark. Following a Santa Clara goal, Hanna Jordan found Lindsey Heaney to push the lead to two. In the final second of the third period, Isogawa dished an assist to Haskell to give CUI a 7-4 advantage heading into the final frame.

In the fourth period, Santa Clara struck for a goal not even 30 seconds in. cutting the lead back to two. With 1:36 remaining in the game, Heaney got the ball to Jordan for CUI's final goal of the contest and the Eagles went on to win 8-5.
With the win, the Eagles conclude their 2018 season with a record of 6-18.
