IRVINE, Calif. — Despite dropping game one of the doubleheader, Concordia Baseball came back with a big 6-3 win in the nightcap. After being hit by the pitch once in todays game and once in yesterday's game, Hunter Holland has broken the as Concordia Baseball record for most times Hit By Pitch (HBP) in a season with 20. Holland is followed by Chris Kindreich with 19 HBP in 1994.
Game One: Biola got up early with a run in the first inning and followed with four in the top of the third. The Eagles began to battle back in the bottom of the fourth with back to back walks and an RBI double to left center by Alex DiMascio. Then, Tony Garcia III knocked a sacrifice fly to left field to score Bailey Collins. Concordia was on the board with two after five innings.
Biola made it 15-2 in the seventh inning with a couple doubles and a trio of singles. The Eagles added their final run of the game in the eighth when Collins scored on a passed ball to bring the score to 15-3 before the mid-game break.
Game Two: Josh Ibarra headed to the mound in the first inning determined to turn the tides for Concordia, but there was not a shift in energy until the third inning of game two. Biola knocked in two runs in the second inning and the second game seemed to start like the first. In the bottom of the third, Castro started the rally with a single up the middle and was moved over after Nava's first double of the game to left center field. The first run came on a groundout to shortstop by Dillon Millar and two more Eagles scored on an error and a wild pitch. Concordia led 3-2 until the fourth inning where Castro and Nava single and doubled. Millar ripped a single up the middle to score Castro and give the Eagles a 4-2 lead.
In the sixth inning, Nava struck again. The senior knocked a single up the middle and an error on the centerfielder allowed Juan Zuniga to score, ending the game at 6-3.
Eagle Eye: Michael Nava went 3-for-3 with two doubles and single in his final doubleheader as an Eagle. Dominic Castro went 2-for-3 with two rally starting singles. Freshman RHP Joshua Ibarra earned the win in game two and Sam Reed, the save.
