Water Polo Wins Final Two Games at Triton Invitational

After dropping two games on Saturday in the first day of the Triton Invitational, the Eagles water polo team played two more games on Sunday.  In an early morning game, CUI took on the University of La Verne at 8:00 AM and then faced off with the University of Redlands at 12:30 PM.  Entering Sunday's action, the Eagles were searching for their first win of the season, and after two strong showings, they found themselves back on track heading into a tough matchup with USC.

Game One: The Eagles jumped out to a quick start against ULV in their first game.  Just over one minute into the game, Patrik Zsiros found the back of the net and put the Eagles on top, 1-0.  After the Leopards tied the game at one, Zsiros scored again at the 5:02 mark to put the Eagles back in front.
CUI led the rest of the way as their offensive barrage continued.  After Zsiros' quick start, Messan Moore then found his rhythm for the Eagles, scoring three goals in the final five minutes of the 1st quarter.  At the end of one, the Eagles led 5-1.

In the 2nd quarter, the pace slowed.  Zsiros scored twice more and the Leopards scored two themselves.  At halftime, CUI led 7-3.  La Verne played well in the 2nd half, outscoring the Eagles 10-8 in final 16 minutes of game action.  In the 3rd quarter, four Eagles found the back of the net.  Moore scored twice, Zsiros scored one more and Nick Walker and Gibson Gerace each added one.

Entering the 4th quarter, the Eagled led 12-9, and though La Verne outscored them 4-3 in the 4th quarter, CUI held on to win 15-13.  Zsiros scored two 4th quarter goals, giving him seven for the day, and John Roberts added another goal.

Game Two:  Just as they did in the first game, the Eagles jumped out to an early lead in the 1st quarter and then held on to win.  Zsiros, Roberts, Gerace and Marius Jakimcikas each scored one goal and the Eagles led 4-2 at the on one.

The 2nd quarter saw less action offensively, and each team scored just one goal.  Austin Barton got on the board for the Eagles.  In the 2nd half, they continued their strong play.  Jakimcikas scored two 3rd quarter goals and Gerace added one.  In the 4th, Jakimcikas scored his fourth goal of the day and Zsiros scored two more.  CUI won by the final score of 11-8 over the University of Redlands.

Eagle Eye: Zsiros scored 10 goals for the day, Moore added five and Jakimcijas scored four.

What's Next: The Eagles take on USC tonight on the road at 5:00 PM.
