HILO, HAWAI'I - The Eagles went to Hawai'i Hilo for their first match on their three game trip in Hawai'i. Former head coach for Hawaii Hilo
Gene Krieger stepped foot back into the Vulcan gym but in a new role as the assistant coach for Concordia. Ultimately, the Vulcans prevailed over the Eagles taking the match in three sets.Â
The Vulcans went on a six point run early in the set that gave them a 8-2 lead. Hawaii Hilo was able to keep the Eagles from going on any runs in the first set with their defense that led them to take the first set, 25-17.Â
The second set was once again in the Vulcans favor as they would go on another five point run in the beginning of the game to take a 8-2 lead yet again. With a few hitting errors from Hawaii Hilo and kills from
Riley Gill and
Hannah Tostado, Concordia was able to get within three points. Tostado,
Cambria Fernandez, and
Mackenzie Jensen contributed on the front row to bring the Eagles within one point with the score 20-19. The Vulcans were able to stop the Eagles and took the second set with a close score 25-21.Â
The Vulcans momentum continued into the third set as their offense and defense held the Eagles to a hitting percentage of .161 with ten kills. Hawaii Hilo had four service errors during the third set that kept Concordia with a fighting chance to take the match to a fourth set. Concordia was not able to hang on as Hawaii Hilo took the third set with a 25-14 victory.Â
Tostado led the night for the Eagles with eight kills and a .467 hitting percentage. Junior
