SANTA CLARA, Calif. - The Concordia University Irvine men's water polo team won its first conference match of the year on Saturday with an 11-10 victory over Santa Clara on the road, despite being outshot 34-29.Â
The Eagles scored twice in the opening quarter, taking a 2-0 lead into the second. Santa Clara did not back down, taking a 4-3 lead into the break.
24 seconds into the third quarter
Patrik Zsiros scored his only goal of the afternoon to bring the Eagles level at four all. Within 90 seconds Santa Clara took the lead back 5-4.Â
The two teams went back and forth for the next three minutes before
Marius Jakimcikas happened. Jakimcikas went on a tear, scoring five of the Eagles final seven goals.
Messan Moore and
Nick Taylor each scored two goals to bring the Eagles total to 11 on the afternoon.
The men's water polo team is back in action on Saturday, Oct. 19 when the squad faces Fresno Pacific in Fresno.
