Eagles Middle Blockers Step Up in Hawaii Road Trip Finale

Box Score HONOLULU, Hawaii – In the final day of the Hawaii road trip, the Concordia women's volleyball looked to take down the Chaminade Silverswords, who is one of two undefeated teams left in the PacWest. Despite late fights from the Eagles, it was Chaminade who came out victorious, taking the match 3-0 (25-23, 25-20, 25-18).

The Green and Gold capitalized on their strengths in order to keep themselves alive, by out blocking Chaminade 12.5-4.0, led by Hannah Tostado's six and four apiece for Jordan Mineer and Kylie Breitenwischer.

The opening set came down to defense as the Eagles collected six digs from Julia DenBoer and two blocks from Breitenwischer, but it was the Silverswords who edged their way to a lead, taking the set 25-23. Neither team hit well offensively, as both hit below .150. Riley Gill was successful though, where she had four of her team-high eight kills in the set.

In a back and forward race to start set two, teams tied it up 10 before the Silverswords got ahead 15-10. All Eagles contributed offensively to keep their team alive before the set neared completion. But Concordia did not go away as CUI fought off four Chaminade set points.

A multitude of hitting errors from the Silverswords allowed the Eagles to get ahead early 8-6. Breitenwischer continued to put pressure on the opponents with three kills and a block during crucial times in the set. Kailyn Case guided her team late to some great offensive deliveries, saving some tight passes that resulted in points for the Eagles.

Next Up: Concordia returns home for a pair of PacWest matches on Friday, Oct. 18 at 7:00 p.m. against Holy Names before hosting Academy of Art on Saturday, Oct. 19. The contest with Academy of Art has been moved to a new start time of 3:00 p.m that afternoon. For the full CUI women's volleyball schedule, click here.
