IRVINE, Calif. - The Eagles opened up their five game home stint against the Silverswords of Chaminade University and both squads did not disappoint the fans. CUH won the match in a narrow 1-0 victory.
Â
The PacWest standings had the Green and Gold and Chaminade tied for third place before the match. Both teams came out hard and aggressive in the first half and ended the first half just as it started, 0-0.
Â
As second half action got underway the physicality intensified. CUI and CUH did not want to give an edge, both teams fought for the third place spot all match.
Â
Unfortunately for the Eagles, Chaminade struck first midway through the second half. Freshman midfielder Brison Kim slipped past the defenders and found the net to give the Silverswords a 1-0 lead.
Â
The remainder of the game was a battle of back and forth struggle for control of the game. The match ended in the Eagles scoreless but not for lack of effort.
Â
"Unfortunately, we went away from some of the fundamentals that make us an effective team," said head coach Chris Gould. "You have to give credit to Chaminade as they worked hard for each other particularly after they scored… We will get better from this game and that is all we can focus on moving forward."
Â
CUI will be back in action Thursday, October 31st at 3:30 p.m. against Hawaii Pacific.
