The Eagles ended their battle Saturday knotted 2-2 with the Sunbirds.
The game started strong with senior
Kara Gilchrist scoring about five minutes into the game.
Cienah Reed earned another assist on the play, which puts her tied for third overall in the CUI record books for assists (17) in her career. It is looking good for Reed to take the number one spot in the records at this rate. The junior needs just five more to pass record-holder Nikki Fournier who racked up 21 career assists for the Green and Gold from 2001-04.
Unfortunately for the Eagles, the Sunbirds scored five minutes later to tie the game up at 1-1. Reed continuing to bring on her aggressive play as she scored 23 minutes into the first half. Reed has been playing strong this entire season and continued to lead the squad this game. With the score now at 2-1 the CUI women's soccer team was looking to hold the lead and continued to battle on the defensive side.
The second half began and FPU was attacking aggressively and found a way to score just five minutes into the period. From that point on, the score was 2-2 and it stayed there for the rest of regulation.
The Eagles and Sunbirds battled into double overtime. The Eagles were able to get more opportunity by getting off five shots, compared to Fresno Pacific's one, but both teams were unable to get to the net.
Looking forward the Eagles continue their traveling and head up to the Bay Area to face Academy of Art on Thursday, Oct. 10 at 10:30 a.m. The next home game for the women's soccer team is Saturday, October 26 at 1 p.m. against Chaminade.
