Irvine, CALIF.- The CUI men's soccer team has been on a roll as of late and it is partly to the liking of junior goalkeeper, Mac Hutchins. Hutchins is this week's PacWest Conference Defender of the Week.
Â
"This accolade means a lot, it is nice to be able to see the results of the hard work I have put in this past year," said Hutchins. "I also could not have won this award without my backline. Those guys have been playing great soccer and made my job much easier."
Â
Hutchins has posted back-to-back shutouts in home victories over Biola and Point Loma. Hutchins collected five saves against the Sea Lions to help CUI emerge with a 1-0 win on Senior Day.Â
Â
He has led the Eagles to four shutouts in his nine appearances and helped his team put together a four-game winning streak as they look to finish the year in the top 3 in the conference standings.Â
Â
"Mac is what college soccer is all about," said head coach Chris Gould. "Mac has battled through a tough period and was able to pull himself out. This is a great testament to his character and to the guys who work so hard for each other to earn these shutouts."
Â
CUI has now blanked three teams in a row as the team heads north to face Dominican and Notre Dame de Namur.
Â
The first of the last two PacWest Conference performances for the squad will be played on Thursday, Nov. 14th at Dominican University at 1:30 p.m.
