Eagles Earn Shutout in Final PacWest Conference Match

Belmont, CALIF. -  In the last PacWest Conference match for the Concordia Eagles, they took on the Argonauts of Notre Dame De Namur and came out victorious 3-0. The shutout gave the Green and Gold their fourth shutout out of their last five contests.

"It was a great feeling to end with a win and a clean sheet," said Michael Oakson. "Today, we really wanted to come out with a win and a solid performance for the seniors who have given their all to the program. We are blessed to have taken care of business against NDNU… Obviously it would be an honor to represent the school and program in the playoffs, so we will be anxiously waiting to see what our future holds in the next few days."

CUI will secure second place in the PacWest Standings with their win and a Dominican University loss.

The match got underway and Concordia knew exactly what was on the line and they performed when the lights were on. In the 17th minute of action, the box out specialist, Luke Ryan found himself in scoring position when NDNU defender headed the ball right to the likes of Ryan on the back post. There was only one thing left to do, and Ryan capitalized to give Eagles the 1-0 lead.

The remainder of the first half saw many attempts on both sides of the ball at the net but the Ryan goal was the lone score of the first 45 minutes. Both Concordia and the Argonauts attempted seven shots during the half.

CUI looked to end their regular season strong, and they had not left their mark on the season yet. In typical team fashion, the Eagles scored twice more in the second half. The first goal of the second half was scored in the 70th minute of action on a penalty kick by Caley Powers. The Powers goal would be his eight of the season and enough to earn him the mark of the team's leading goal scorer.

Powers was not done yet, just two minutes later, with the help of Vincente Flores, they teamed up to assist Jose Huerta in his last goal of his PacWest Conference career. This goal gave Powers the lead assist notch for the Eagles and helped secure the 3-0 victory over NDNU.

"This win feels good," said Powers. "This was a great way to end the season, and my college career. I am proud of everyone today, we came together and showed what we could do."
