Green and Gold Earn Clean Sheet Over Hawaii Hilo

IRVINE, Calif.- The Concordia University Irvine women's soccer team continued its win streak Saturday by beating Hawaii Hilo 3-0.

The Eagles remained undefeated in the PacWest Conference and are on a six-game winning streak.  The game started off with a bang for the Eagles as freshman Analisa Gjonovich took a corner kick and scored what proved to be the game-winning goal in the first two minutes of action.  Her shot was perfectly kicked as it grazed the goalie's hands right into the top right corner of the goal.  This was Gjonovich's third goal of the season.  Gjonovich stepped up these past two games to help get some big wins for the Eagles.  Against HPU on Thursday, Oct. 31 Gjonovich assisted the first goal from Molly Melanson to help break the ice that game.

"We are on a really good path right now," said Gjonovich.  "As long as we stay on that and come out like we did today, we came out like we said we would, and that is why we got the result that we did."

Gjonovich felt confident with the path the Eagles are headed down despite some players battling injury.

Megan Hussey, who had been hurt the past two months, was able to get back out on the field this game and she was ready to make an impact.  Hussey earned the hockey assist with Danni Barton for the second goal that was scored by Olivia Khoury, which was her first goal of the season.  Hussey then continued to be a playmaker as she scored her own first goal for the season.  Credit went to Nicole Font as she passed a great ball to Hussey and earned an assist.

"Getting back on the field felt really good," said Hussey.  "We have realized we have had a lot of injuries on the team, so it was really nice to play for them because this whole week we have been praying about healing and playing for them."

Hussey continued to discuss how that goal was for her best friend on the team who just got surgery the day prior to this game.  It is the actions and responses like these that make this CUI team so special.  The women's soccer team has constantly worked for one another and played for each other and this is one of the many reasons in why they have been successful thus far.

The Eagles defense remained solid as they provided another shutout and only allowed four shots on goal. Goalie Kaelyn Whitcomb made four stops and helped CUI notch its fifth shutout of the year.

Looking forward the Eagles have another big week and are eager to keep their win streak alive.  On Thursday, Nov. 7 at 12:00 p.m. there is an Eagle face off as Biola comes into Green and Gold territory.  This is the CODE YELLOW game sponsored by the Habit Burger Grill, so come out and support by wearing yellow or gold as the Eagles face the first-place team in the PacWest Conference.  For the full Eagles women's soccer schedule, click here.
