IRVINE, Calif. – In the women's volleyball weekend finale, the Concordia Eagles put up a strong all-around performance to cruise past the Notre Dame de Namur Argonauts, sweeping the series.
Hannah Tostado led the charge for the night, collecting a team-high 14 points by way of nine kills, two blocks, and a career-high four aces. Right along with her was
Jaclyn Brown,
Jordan Mineer, and
Mackenzie Jensen, all with seven kills apiece.
Despite a tight first set, the Eagles flipped the switch and dominated in set two and had separation in the third.
"We were kind of sluggish at first but we picked it up by the end of the game and we just had a lot of fun and a lot of energy," said
Clarice Buchanan. "I thought our team was very confident and we kept our composure.
In set two, Concordia served tough with consistent serves from Brown and Tostado to get ahead 10-2.
Julia DenBoer continued the pressure with a 5-0 run and Latigue followed behind, to put the Eagles up 22-8.
Clarice Buchanan entered the match and was efficient in passing and put up two digs.
After a slow start, Jensen collected multiple kills and other Eagles contributed to lead 8-5.
Kailyn Case forced misplay on the opponent's side with her serve and
Kylie Breitenwischer put down one of her four kills to gain separation at 17-8. Middle blocker
Renae Ross made an appearance and made the most of it, putting down three kills and hit .500.
"I think in the second and third set we definitely came back and played at a higher level," said O'Neal. "That helped us keep the momentum and we were playing more for each other as a team."
Next Up: The Eagles will conclude its season on Saturday, Nov. 23 at 3 p.m. with senior day as they will honor Breitenwischer and DenBoer prior to the game against Dominican.
