Eagles Earn Split At Pepperdine Invite

MALIBU, Calif. - The Concordia University Eagles men's water polo team was looking to get back to their winning ways on Sunday as they played two games in the Pepperdine Invite at Pepperdine University.  The Eagles split on the afternoon, beating California Lutheran and losing to #5 ranked Pepperdine.

Game One:
The Eagles, fresh off a loss to LMU yesterday, were looking to set the tone early.  Marius Jakimcikas entered the pool as a man on a mission, scoring six of his seven goals in the first half.  His strong play helped the Eagles enter the half with a two goal lead over the Kingsmen of California Lutheran.
The Eagles looked to put the Kingsmen away in the third quarter with early goals from Messan Moore and Patrik Zsiros.  An eight goal quarter gave the Eagles a six goal lead heading into the final quarter.
The Kingsmen never backed down, scoring five goals in the final quarter.  It was too little too late though, as the Eagles held on for the 19-16 win.

Game Two:
The Eagles were back in the pool, this time taking on the #5 Waves of Pepperdine.
The Eagles struggled against the Waves stifling defense.  Messan Moore finished the contest with three goals while Zsiros and Jakimcikas each finished with two.  Braden Lee scored the Eagles only other goal to bring their total to eight.
The Waves played like the #5 team in the country, finishing the game with 18 goals from ten different goal scores.
The Eagles look to build from this experience as they finish WWPA Conference play with a game against California Baptist University on Friday, November 8th at 1:30pm.
