IRVINE, Calif. – The Concordia women's volleyball team delivered on a Saturday evening match-up with Fresno Pacific, defeating the Sunbirds by way of a sweep.
A trio of Eagles collected double-digit kills, led by
Jordan Mineer and
Mackenzie Jensen with 12 apiece. Jensen went errorless on 16 swings, hitting a hot .750 to go along with two blocks.
Hannah Tostado had 10 kills, hit .333, and had four blocks.
Tough serving from
Kailyn Case put the Eagles up early in the first at 7-4. A trio of kills from the CUI frontline, extended its lead to 20-15 before closing out on a 4-0 run to end it at 25-22.
With Fresno Pacific hanging close in the second, Concordia stormed away with a 7-1 run to lead 17-12. The Sunbirds clawed back to it at 23-all, but kills from Mineer, and Jensen closed it out to take a 2-0 lead.
The momentum was strong for the Green and Gold in the third, getting ahead 11-5. There was no looking back as a late set spark from
Cambria Fernandez who had two kills in a 6-2 run had the Eagles perched on match point. After a run of great defensive battles, Mineer capitalized on a swing from
Brianna Latigue to end the evening.
"We overall played our game and came out fighting," said Fernendez, "I definitely think we have a lot to prove here at the end and tonight was a good testimony of that."
Next: Concordia continues its stretch of home games with three against the teams from Hawaii, beginning with Chaminade coming on Nov. 13 at 7 p.m.
