Eagles Clash with Chaminade on Senior Night

With a chance to clinch a berth in the PacWest Conference Tournament, the Eagles took on the Chaminade Silverswords at CU Arena on Saturday night.

Throughout the first quarter, the Eagles' defense was strong, holding the Silverswords to just 33.3 percent shooting from the floor.  The Eagles, on the offensive end, shot the ball well.  In the first period, they connected on 64.3 percent of their shots, but they struggled with turnovers.  In the first, the Eagles turned the ball over five times.  Despite jumping out to a quick 11-3 lead, they weren't able to extend it.  At the end of one, they led 20-13.

In the second, the Silverswords picked up their offensive effort and continued to play strong defense.  The Eagles turned the ball over eight times in the second quarter alone, 13 total in the first half, and when the quarter came to a close, CUI's early lead was gone.  Jasmine Rachal led all scorers with 15 points in the first half, but the Eagles trailed by one, 31-30.

The second half was a constant struggle for both teams, and the main problem for the Eagles remained the same.  They continued to turn the ball over far too often, and despite shooting 72.7 percent from the floor in the third, they led only 48-42 heading into the fourth.

In the fourth, the Chaminade full court press was lethal.  The Eagles turned the ball over 13 times in the fourth quarter alone, and finished the game with an astonishing 34 turnovers.  Despite struggling to take care of the ball, the game remained close, as the Eagles' defense was strong from start to finish.  Though the game was sloppy on both sides, the Eagles were able to hold the lead for the majority of the game.  With 2:32 remaining, however, the Silverswords took the lead and never looked back.  Though the

Eagles had three attempts in the final minute from beyond the three point line while trailing by three, they were unable to knock in any.  The Eagles fell by a score of 68-63.

The game was the final home game for senior guard Kara Ito.  Despite the frustrating loss in her final game, Ito is proud of her time in an Eagle uniform.

"I am eternally grateful for the opportunity to play here," said Ito.  "I will forever think of CUI as one big family."

Ito continued, "I will miss playing at Concordia and the atmosphere our fans bring, but I am grateful for the huge turnout tonight and support all these years."

The final PacWest game of the season will take place next Saturday at Point Loma.  Tipoff is scheduled for 2:00 PM and the game will be played in San Diego.
