SAN DIEGO, Calif. — Concordia Baseball (0-2, 0-0 PacWest) rounded out a weekend of inclement weather with its first road game of the season. No. 14 UC San Diego hosted the Eagles in what was supposed to be the finale of a three game series, but with the Saturday afternoon contest postponed, the teams competed for the second time on Super Bowl Sunday. The Eagles were defeated by the defending West Region champions, 6-4.
Matt Lautz went 2-for-4 with a home run and a triple. Haloa Dudoit went 3-for-4 with three singles and a walk. Bailey Collins hit an RBI single while Cooper Moore and Tony Garcia III received RBI's from fielders choice plays. RHP Nicholas Manago entered the game in relief and dealt three strikeouts in two straight frames.
With a trio of singles in the first inning, UCSD scored a run and the Eagles trailed early. Fighting back, Lautz smacked the first home run of the season and his first home run as an Eagle over the left field fence to tie the game in the second.
The Tritons answered quickly with a solo shot in the bottom of the second and added to the lead with a three-run home run by Brandon Baumgartner in the third.
Lautz tripled to right center field in the fourth, and Garcia III knocked him in. The Eagles still trailed 5-2 until a single by Jair Donovan and fielders choice RBI by Moore brought Collins home and cut the lead to two runs, 5-3.
UC San Diego added another run in the sixth and Concordia matched it in the seventh. Collins hit an RBI single through the right side to score Carl Turner. Eagles dropped game two with a final score of 6-4.
