LONG BEACH, Calif. – The Concordia beach volleyball team set out to take on a pair of Division I teams on Wednesday, taking on Oregon and the host, No. 9 Long Beach State.
 
Head coach Inutiraha Leau adjusted the pairings in hope for a positive outcome against two tough teams.
 
In a battle with the Oregon Ducks, two flights went the distance as flights three and four each went to three sets. New partners Kya Bock and Bella Brown took on Josie Cole and Ally Haden at the threes, with the Ducks winning set one 21-15, and the Eagles responding with a second set win 21-16. Despite the great defensive plays by Bock and Brown, the Eagles fell 15-8 in the third.
 
Also going to three sets was Kit McCarty and Hailee Ryan, losing to Lauren Page and August Raskie, 20-22, 21-15, 15-10. At the five's, Maddy Clark and Veronica Wood took on Carly Wallace and Elise Ferreira and pushed to the finish but dropped the match 21-13, 21-19.
 
With a short break following the first game, the Eagles stepped right back on the sand to take on its first top ten team of the season. The Beach took the dual in straight sets on each court, but it was an experience for the Eagles to gel with their partners against a strong team.
 
McCarty and Ryan dropped set one 21-12 but did not give up as the pair hung with the duo of Claire Newlander and Sophie Major with the end result being 25-23.
 
Concordia has a two week break before heading back to action on the road at CSUN on Apr. 12.
