Eagles Reach 40 Win Mark

Playing in their seventh game in four days, the Eagles concluded their marathon midweek schedule with another win on Thursday morning.  After beating the Dominican University of California Penguins 6-3, the Eagles reached a significant milestone.  The win gave CUI 40 for the season.  It is the 11th season in Concordia history with at least 40 wins, 10 of which have come in Coach Crystal Rosenthal's tenure as the Eagles' head coach.  The win was also the 11th in a row for the Eagles.

For the second consecutive game, the Eagles came from behind to win.  After two innings from Erika Morris, Callie Nunes came out of the bullpen and earned her seventh win of the week and 29th in 2019.  Megan Massa led the Eagles on offense, going two-for-four at the plate, while knocking in three and scoring twice.  Sydni Dix and Sydney Sprinkle each capped their strong offensive week with great performances in the box.  The pair combined for five hits, two runs, and a pair of RBIs.

Trailing 2-0 in the third, Massa pulled a home run to right on the first pitch she saw to put the Eagles on the board.  Dix and Sprinkle followed Massa's home run with a pair of singles, and two batters later, Amanda Gjertsen knocked in the game tying run.  Dominican answered, however, and in the bottom half of the inning, they scored one to re-take the lead.

In the fifth, Dix led off the inning with a solo home run to right field, tying the game again.  The following inning, the Eagles jumped ahead for good.  Erika Morris led off the inning with a walk, Michelle Lieng singled to left, and Megan Massa doubled in two to put the Eagles up, 5-3.  Dix then singled in Massa and the Eagles took a three run lead.
Now working with a lead, Nunes retired the final seven Penguin hitters to seal the win.

After a busy week, in which the Eagles went 7-0 in four days, they finally receive a break.  CUI returns to action one week from Thursday, taking on Biola University in La Mirada, Calif.
