Eagles Battle No. 1 Seed Pacific in Quarterfinals

FRESNO, Calif. - Concordia women's water polo team traveled to Fresno State for the GCC Championship tournament where they first faced No. 1 seed Pacific (15-8, 7-0 GCC). The last match-up between the two teams were just earlier this month with the Tigers coming out on top by a score 20-3. As the Eagles faced the Tigers in the quarterfinals, they were able to prevail again and outlasting the Eagles by a final score 16-3. 

Pacific dominated in the first half as they would score 11 goals while Concordia would be scoreless unable to find the back of the net. Emily Lawless shots on goal were saved by their goalie and Hanna Jordan got blocked by the GCC player of the Year Kyra Christmas in the firsts quarter. Madison Ravelo came close in the second quarter with a shot hitting the post on the goal. 

After the halftime, Dailynn Santoro came out scoring the first goal for Concordia assisted by Elena Isogawa at the 6:33 mark. Ramsie Haskell and Jade Jette both took a shot but would be saved again by the Tigers defense. Pacific would put up four goals in the third with a score 15-1. 

In the fourth quarter, Lawless, Katharine Leese, and Mauriama Moore came close to scoring goals, but Pacific's defense would not let up. Once Concordia took a timeout, Lindsey Heaney received a pass from Hanna Jordan and would find the back of the net with 3:13 left in the game.  Sierra Venegas added a tally in the final minute of regulation for CUI's third goal to complete the scoring.

Concordia's Ariana Olmos was in goal the whole game and tallying six saves.
