LA JOLLA, Calif. – CUI women's soccer team falls short to the UC San Diego Tritons in the season opener. The Eagles were looking to build up momentum facing the No. 3 Tritons as they battled hard throughout the game but were unable to get the results they wanted.
Marissa Ray was a big factor for the Tritons this evening as she scored both goals, one in the first half and another just under the 62-minute mark in the second half. The Eagles were creating chaos in front of the net trying to get the ball rolling out of their territory, but Ray was still able to find the net.
The season started off with a loss, however the women's team is looking to push through and build on what they started.
"We fought really hard," said CUI senior and SAAC President
Kara Gilchrist. "I thought our team did the best we could and had moments to scare our opponent." The Eagles took five shots with two of them being on goal, just unable to get the finished product.
"We are so excited to get our season rolling and to see what the next couple months has in store for us," added Gilchrist.
Looking ahead, the women's soccer team home opener is this Saturday, Sept. 7 at 1 p.m. against Cal Poly Pomona. Come out and support your lady eagles as they look to get the ball rolling! For the full schedule of the Concordia women's soccer team click
