Eagles Put Up A Fight To Open The Season

The Concordia University Irvine men's water polo team opened its season Saturday against UCSB and Pomona Pitzer.  The eagles fought valiantly in both games but ended up dropping both to start the season 0-2.

Game one:  The Eagles got off to a strong start leading the Gauchos after the first quarter.  Patrik Zsiros scored his first two goals of the season in the quarter to help the Eagles get off to the early lead.  

The Gauchos fought back in the second quarter, getting goals from six different players, to take a two goal lead into the half.  

The Eagles fought hard to keep the game close in the second half but ultimately were not able to overcome the seventh ranked Gauchos, losing by a final score of 7-12.  Marius Jakimcikas scored three goals to lead the Eagles.  

Game two: Marius Jakimcikas scores five more to bring his season total to eight, but he was not enough as the Eagles fell to the Broncos by a final score of 9-12.

The Eagles fell behind early but were able to take the lead going into half time.  

The Sagehens were the more aggressive side in the second half, getting six goals from seven different players.  

 

The Eagles are back in action tomorrow with two more games.  First game is against Whittier College at 8:30am.
