Eagles Soar To First Win On A Buzzer Beater

LA JOLLA, Calif. - The Eagles were back in action at the Triton Invitational on Sunday, playing two more games to finish up the weekend.  They fought hard, earning their first win of the season, coming from behind to beat Chapman at the buzzer.

Game One:  The Eagles got behind early and ultimately could not overcome the slow start.  The Poets of Whittier College put up four goals in the first quarter and never looked back.  They took a 6-1 lead into halftime and ended up winning by a final of 11-9.

The Eagles got five goals from Nick Squared (Nick Walker and Nick Taylor).  The Eagles fought hard in the second half, outscoring the Poets 8-5.

Game Two: The Eagles saw an early lead slip away but were able to persevere and come from behind in the fourth quarter to beat the Panthers 13-12.

The Eagles got off to a strong start with three goals from Marius Jakimcikas in the first half.  They sustained a three goal lead thanks to goals from four other players.

The Panthers started the second strong and were able to capture the lead heading into the fourth quarter.

With their first win of the season slipping away the Eagle regrouped, getting four goals in the fourth quarter, two from freshman Nick Taylor, one from senior Messan Moore, and the buzzer beater from Marius Jakimcikas, his fifth of the game and team leading fourteenth on the year.

Head coach Dreason Barry was very pleased with his team's performance in their come from behind victory on Sunday.  "We had a lot of good competition this weekend," said Barry. "In our last game against Chapman with all the ups and downs we stayed composed and in the end scored a buzzer beater to win. I'm glad we got to experience that moment with each other. Great team effort."

The Eagles will be back in action on Wednesday, September 11th as they host UC San Diego in their home opener.
