IRVINE, Calif. – Be sure to wear yellow or gold this Thursday when your Concordia basketball teams host their PacWest Conference rivals from Biola University for our next Code Yellow event sponsored by The Habit Burger Grill.
The first 200 students to arrive for the 5:30 p.m. women's basketball game will get the chance to sink their teeth into a delicious free taco from Del Taco. Students and fans will also have the opportunity to snag free yellow fanny packs which will be handed out throughout the second game of the doubleheader. The key conference clash between the men's teams is slated for a 7:30 p.m. tipoff following the women's contest.
Free Code Yellow t-shirts and coupons for free food at The Habit Burger Grill will also be given out to fans throughout the evening.
Both CUI basketball teams are hungry for a win coming off their recent stretch of four consecutive road games. The women's team improved to 5-2 in conference play after
Jasmine Rachal dropped a career-high 31 points to help CUI
complete a season sweep of Fresno Pacific this past Monday. Junior
Michaela VanderKlugt also
recently joined the 1,000 point club at Concordia in a victory over Notre Dame de Namur which saw the Eagles hold the Argos to a season-low 32 total points. The 32 points allowed were just one shy of the CUI program record. Coach
Christine Collins-Kiernan's squad opened 4-0 against PacWest opponents for the first time since CUI joined the league at the NCAA DII level and is looking to reach the conference tournament for the third straight season.
The CUI men's basketball team also opened conference play strong by beating their first five PacWest opponents and putting together a seven-game winning streak.
After beating Fresno Pacific for a second time and going 3-1 in its last four games away from home, Coach
Ken Ammann's squad returns to CU Arena looking to capture its sixth consecutive home victory. Just like VanderKlugt,
Andre Green also
scored career point No. 1,000 this season and is one of three Eagles averaging at least ten points per game. Leading a balanced scoring attack for the Eagles are Preseason All-PacWest selection
Rob McCoy (12.8 ppg), Green (11.8 ppg) and
Jalen Sanders (10.3 ppg).
Darius Lee,
Jamel White and
Kayle Knuckles are also averaging at least 8.0 ppg.
